The President's Gotta Fly...

Northrop Grumman Hosts Sikorsky VH-92 Presidential Helicopter

In a flight demonstration event for employees and guests, Northrop Grumman Corporation hosted Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.'s VH-92 Presidential Helicopter demonstrator Monday at Palwaukee Municipal Airport in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

Northrop Grumman and Sikorsky are partners on the All-American Team, which is bidding to build the next fleet of helicopters to serve as Marine One, the helicopter that transports the president of the United States. Northrop Grumman is supplying aircraft survivability equipment to the VH-92. The All-American Team also includes FlightSafety International, L-3 Communications Integrated Systems, Rockwell Collins, Vought Aircraft Industries, and General Electric Aircraft Engines.

"The president of the United States must be transported by the safest, most advanced helicopter in the world," said James Cameron, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Defensive Systems Division. "Northrop Grumman is excited to be in a position to continue to offer our proven advanced technology products in support of this important mission."

The demonstration VH-92 that flew today is on a multistate tour to its partners' facilities and other locations for flight demonstrations and press events.

"We call ourselves the All-American Team because these companies represent the best America's aerospace industry has to offer," said Joseph Haddock, Sikorsky's vice president for business development. "There's no better example than Northrop Grumman, an All-American company in every sense of the term."

The VH-92 is a derivative of the Sikorsky S-92, the first and only helicopter in the world certified to the Federal Aviation Administration's latest and most stringent safety standards as well as the latest safety standards of the European Aviation Safety Agency/Joint Aviation Authorities. In 2002 the S-92 won the Collier Trophy for the "greatest achievement in aerospace" by the National Aeronautic Association. Sikorsky has built and maintained the presidential helicopter fleet since 1957.
