Best of OSH25: Facebook Group Expands Into 'Fly-Inn' Rental Properties

From a Small Facebook Group to a Large Website, for All Pilots to Rent Houses and Cars

When pilots land at remote or unfamiliar airports, finding a place to stay and a way to get around can be a challenge. That’s where Fly-Inn, a unique pilot-to-pilot lodging platform, comes in. Like other housing rentals you could find online, but exclusively for pilots.

Founded by Carollyne B. Carmichel just two years ago, Fly-Inn has rapidly grown from a simple Facebook group with a handful of listings to a full website with over 120 locations across the United States available to pilots.

The concept is simple, yet so creative, to offer housing and a car to those traveling for fun. For pilots flying somewhere in their own plane, it can be difficult to find transportation to a hotel... and the cost just goes up from there. Being able to explore, go shopping, or attend events at your convenience is something that we think about but don’t always get without the hassle. “Must have a car available” is a requirement of every listing, ensuring convenience for fly-in guests.

After Sun ’n Fun 2025, Carollyne traveled the country with her flight instructor and went to visit all of the current locations on the map. The tour was shared on YouTube, giving followers a behind-the-scenes look at the variety of stays, from cozy cabins to full homes. The interactive map of all listings made its debut at Sun ’n Fun, giving guests a full description of each listing. Colored with either yellow, green, pink, blue, or orange, showing the distance of the runway from the house.

Now with only Alaska and Florida left on the tour, Carollyne has gone on a brief hiatus to make an appearance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025. In the meantime, she’s working on her Private Pilot License (PPL) in her brand new airplane, sharing her love and commitment to aviation and the community.

From a Facebook group to a national network, Fly-Inn is creating places for pilots to land, park, stay, and enjoy their travels. If you want to join the community in renting out your house or space, the only requirement is that you have to be a pilot and have a car available.
