Airbus Delaying A380 Wing Crack Repairs

Permanent Solutions Will Be Applied Early Next Year

Airbus executives say they are delaying repairs to the A380 aircraft which have developed cracks in their wing rib feet into next year because "we only want to go and do this one time."

The French news service AFP reports that Airbus Executive Vice President Tom Enders said that the permanent solution for aircraft in service will not be applied until early in 2013. The planemaker is expected to begin building wings for the superjumbos with a new type of aluminum which will not develop the problem next year as well. Those airplanes will be delivered in 2014.

Airbus has consistently held that the cracks do not pose a safety risk for the airplanes already in service.
