Commercial Crew Member Suffers Eye Injury In Cockpit

Authorities Say He Was Hit By Laser

Someone, somehow, for some unknown reason, fired a laser right into the cockpit of a Delta Airlines 737 last week, injuring the first officer. The TSA, unsure of whether this was a terror attack, vowed to track down the source of the laser and conduct a full investigation.

The Washington Times reports the 737 was on a five-mile final over Salt Lake City (UT), arriving from Dallas (TX), when the red laser light bathed the cockpit.

The copilot reportedly suffered a burned retina. There's no indication whether the injury is permanent or job-threatening. Delta refused comment and would not release the copilot's name. The aircraft landed safely and no one else on board was hurt.
