Sporty's Academy Offers Aviation Summer Camps

Designed For Kids Ages 10-15, Will Focus On Aviation Concepts, Careers, Technology

Sporty's Academy will host aviation summer camps at Sporty's/Clermont County Airport on June 14-15, and on June 16-17. The first camp is designed for ages 10-12, and the second for ages 13-15.

The camp for 10-12 year olds kicks off with a session on basic aerodynamics. An airport tour follows with the campers given the opportunity to pre-flight an airplane. Campers will be told about the many careers available in aviation. Lunch is on site followed by a session on the different types of aircraft operations, including seaplanes.

Day two for the 10-12 year olds includes a session on aviation weather, gliders, and a trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton (OH).

The 13-15 year olds are offered a more intense two days. The first day begins with an airport tour, followed by sessions on basic aerodynamics, piston and turbine airplanes, corporate flight operations and airline flight operations.

On the second day, the 13-15 year olds study aviation weather, glider operations, multiengine aircraft, and seaplanes. They will then visit Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati Airport to tour the air traffic control facility. The day concludes back at Sporty's/Clermont County Airport with an introductory flight lesson.

"This is the second year Sporty's is offering aviation summer camp," says Eric Radtke, Sporty's Academy president. "We want to introduce young people to all the rewards an aviation career offers."

Upon completion of the camp, the campers will receive logbooks, training posters, aeronautical charts and plotters and a variety of other educational material including volume one of Sporty's Private Pilot Flight Training Course on DVD. The cost for ages 10-12 is $150.00 and $200.00 for ages 13-15.
