ParaZero Debuts AI-Based Safety & Awareness System for UAS Platforms

Asimov’s Third Law

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Be’er Sheva, Israel, ParaZero Drone Safety Solutions is a technology concern specializing in the safe and comprehensive deployment of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). On 01 September 2023, the company debuted SmartAir Trinity, an AI-based avionics system designed to detect malfunctions in UAS and eVTOL aircraft in real-time and provide analytics for mission debriefings. The system utilizes a new, leading-edge sensor array with advanced capabilities.

ParaZero’s SmartAir Trinity system comprises sophisticated visual-awareness cameras and an advanced sensor-suite by which UASs and eVTOLs perceive their surroundings, then employ artificial-intelligence and machine learning features to react appropriately to such. The architecture’s AI-embedded approach supports safety- and risk-mitigation as well as Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware and configuration updates, thereby keeping platforms up to date with the latest and most accurate algorithms and features.

Among a host of new safety capabilities, SmartAir Trinity features an optimized parachute deployment algorithm which facilitates enhanced operational containment capabilities and detection and identification of safe landing zones and delivery sites. Additionally, SmartAir Trinity sports Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-free navigation, a redundancy system for onboard GPS and monitoring of the aircraft’s condition and behavior.

ParaZero chief product officer Yuval Gilad stated: "The commercial UAS and UAM markets continue to gain momentum, with ongoing technology releases, new aircraft development, and supportive global regulatory frameworks. In order for organizations to meet performance-based safety requirements and cut time-to-market, they look to leverage the most robust and effective safety systems and technologies; in those cases, legacy safety systems often won’t cut it.

Mr. Gilad continued: “ParaZero's safety product portfolio has played a critical role in ensuring the safety of urban air mobility and commercial drone flight operations around the world for many years. We are looking forward to offering our next-generation safety technology to the industry at a pivotal time to address both integration needs from original equipment manufacturers and regulatory requirements, to enable every platform to reach its full potential."

ParaZero’s website sets forth the company’s vision is to “use its SafeAir drone safety technology to unlock the full potential of the commercial UAS industry through enhancing operational safety, mitigating risk, and enabling organizations to benefit from regulatory approvals for advanced UAS use cases.”

In keeping with the antecedent vision, ParaZero supplies advanced safety solutions to global customers across myriad aerial platforms, including multirotor, single-rotor, fixed-wing, Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL), manned and unmanned, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft.

Worldwide, organizations and operators have received regulatory approvals for advanced operations, including autonomous flight beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), operations over people (OOP), operations in densely populated areas, and drone delivery, by virtue, in part, of ParaZero’s innovative technologies.
