Airborne 01.29.25: Truly Supersonic XB-1, Tuskegee Faux Pas, Gryder 4 FAA Boss?

Also: Aura-Aero Electric Integral E, Hartzell Talon For GameBird, Boeing Pleads, Airline Docks Exec 4 Drunk Pilots

In a historic first for American aviation, Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 demonstrator aircraft flew beyond the sound barrier at Mach 1.1 at the Mojave Air & Space Port (KMHV) in California.

XB-1 is the first civilian supersonic jet independently designed, developed, and built in America. Boom Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg entered the historic and recently renamed Bell X-1 Supersonic Corridor at 8:22 a.m. local time on January 28, 2025, at an altitude of 35,290 feet MSL and accelerated to Mach 1.122. For some odd reason, the U.S. Air Force decided that the removal of videos of Tuskegee Airmen and WASPS from its curriculum was required by the military DEI ban announced by President Trump. Newly confirmed U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote in response, “We’re all over it Senator. This will not stand.” OK... sometimes truth is stranger than fiction... and such is the case with the self-promotion instigated by YouTube personality Dan Gryder. Dan has started a Change.Org petition to seek President Trump's nomination for the new FAA Administrator position recently vacated by Michael Whitaker. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!
