British Royalty Involved In Near Miss

British Fighter Came Within 3.3 Miles Of Royal Jet

A Eurofighter Typhoon on exercises over northern England Thursday came within 3.3 miles of an RAF BAE125 carrying Princess Anne, the only daughter of Britain's Queen Elizabeth. No one was hurt in the incident, but the Princess's pilot took "avoiding action," according to local news reports.

Anne was on her way to a pair of speaking engagements in Scotland when the near miss occurred. A British controller spotted the Typhoon, which was on a test flight, turn to cross in front of the BAE125 and called for evasive action.

British media report this is the second near miss involving a royal this year. In March, another Royal Squadron jet carrying Prince Charles had a near miss as the heir to the throne was on his way to Spain to attend a memorial service for the 191 victims of a train station terror bombing.
