American Airlines Co-Pilot Dies In The Cockpit

Airplane Was Preparing For Landing In New Mexico

The co-pilot of an American Airlines flight preparing for landing in New Mexico Wednesday collapsed and died in the cockpit, according to media reports.

Fox News relays reports from the New York Daily News and television station WFAA indicating that co-pilot William "Mike" Grubbs collapsed in the cockpit of flight 1353, a Boeing 737 en route to Albuquerque, at about 3:30 local time.

The plane landed safely, and emergency personnel rushed onto the plane to try to revive Grubbs. They worked for about 40 minutes before stopping.

American Airlines is deeply saddened by the death of first officer William “Mike” Grubbs,” said a spokeswoman for the company said. “We’re taking care of first officer Grubbs family and colleagues and our thoughts and prayers are with them them during this time.”
