Sad Landing at Ohio EAA Meet

RV-9 Noses Over on Grass Strip

Heinrich Preiss, 69, and his wife, Lilian, of Bryan (OH) were badly hurt Saturday, as their RV-9 (RV-9 file photo, right) nosed over on landing.

According to local reports, Mr. Preiss was coming in fairly "hot," when he porpoised and dug the nosewheel into the grass runway. The gear dutifully folded back, the prop hit the ground, and the gorgeous homebuilt went over on its back, tail first.

The couple was flown to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.

The airshow, which was hosting a few dozen flying aficionadoes from Ohio as well as Michigan and West Virginia, was put on by the Northwest Ohio chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
