NBAA Unhappy with DC Think Tank’s Snub

Study by ‘Institute for Policy Studies’ “Omits Key Information about Innovations that Lower the Carbon Footprint of Business Aviation”

The NBAA took issue with a Washington DC-based policy group, describing its work as “promoting a misleading caricature of business aviation that ignores the sector’s sustainability leadership and the industry’s essential role in the nation’s economy and transportation system.”

The group, the opaquely-named “Institute for Policy Studies”, lies accused of ignoring advances in the aviation industry to paint an unflattering, unrealistic picture of its overall carbon impact over the coming decades. The NBAA also had qualms about the portrayal of smaller aviation companies, making sure to mention that much of light aviation is focused on flying to those smaller, more rural communities lacking reliable airline service. The organization referred to common industry self-convernance as proof that aviation already has emissions goals in mind, with an overarching voluntary target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“Unsurprisingly, the report provides none of this information, instead falling back on the tired practice of disparaging an entire industry to sound a predictable call for a raft of punitive taxes, fees and regulations disguised as ‘proposals,’” the association noted. “Rather than being distracted by the overheated rhetoric the report offers in support of this agenda, NBAA urges an honest discussion of business aviation’s societal benefits and environmental leadership.”
