It never fails... have a major Fly-In and Mother Nature tends to rear her ugly head. However, in the case of the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase, the weather turned out surprisingly warm, and despite some clouds and threats of storms, the weather was held at bay.

For now. Thankfully, this year's DSAS19 event started with record advance ticket sales, sold out indoor and outdoor exhibits, and a lot of people ready to celebrate the last big Sport Aviation event of 2019. There is a lot to see here this year... 100 exhibitors... Santa Clara County may be trying to take a page from Santa Monica's book and close Reid-Hillview airport in East San Jose, but the FAA says it will vigorously oppose any closure plans -- though we’ve heard that line before... Last December, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted to stop accepting new federal AIP grants for the airport, allowing it to close as soon as 2031. But the FAA said 'not so fast." The agency's Office of Airports director for the Western Pacific Area Mark McClardy sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors in October saying Reid-Hillview (KHRV) is a "crucial asset" for aviation in the region. For the first time in more than half a century, there will be a change of ownership at Continental Air Show Productions (CASP). Dave Olmstead, the company’s long-time operations director, will assume sole ownership effective December 1. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
