Obama Nominates Hart As NTSB Chair

Nominee Is A Licensed Pilot With Long Public Service Record

President Obama has nominated Christopher Hart as chair of the NTSB.

According to his official biography, Hart is a licensed pilot with commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings. His current assignment to the NTSB, which began in 2009, is his second; Hart first served with the Board from 1990 to 1993. Before returning to the NTSB, he held top positions with the FAA and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"NBAA commends the President for nominating Chris Hart as NTSB Chair," said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen in a news release. "He has held several government positions focused on transportation, and we know from our work with him that he understands the importance of general aviation to America's transportation system and its economy. He is also someone who views regulatory proposals with a solid understanding of the unique operating characteristics for business aviation. He is willing to listen to all aviation stakeholders, and consider innovative approaches to enhancing safety."

In his various career posts, Hart has familiarized himself with business aviation, not only through his interactions with NBAA staff, but also by attending industry events, like the Bombardier Safety Standdown, which is co-sponsored by NBAA.

"We congratulate Chris on this nomination, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the years to come," Bolen concluded.
