Drone Manufacturer Plans Mississippi Factory

Delta Southern UAS Will Convert Vacant Facility In Clarksdale, MS

Drone Manufacturer Delta Southern UAS plans to convert a vacant commercial property into a drone manufacturing facility in Clarksdale, MS, eventually bringing about 200-300 jobs to the region.

Television station WMC-TV reports that the company plans to convert the vacant building into a factory in which its line of drones can be built. The company produces aircraft that are targeted to commercial uses such as agriculture, oil and gas, powerline inspections and SAR missions.

Delta Southern UAS president Bill Blackwelder said that initially, the new plant will employ about 25-30 people in positions paying between $15-$25 per hour. But he hopes to grow the business to hire up to 300 people within three years. He said the factory could prove to be an economic boon to the entire region.

Delta Southern UAS has partnered with workforce center at Coahoma Community College to provide pre-employment training for the facility. Steen Jossell, a spokesmen for the center, said that the Delta Southern UAS facility will allow local residents to stay close to home and earn a decent wage, rather than traveling to Memphis or Tunica or other areas for a similar paycheck.
