Wright Glider at Gillespie (CA) Show This Weekend

As a preview to the 9th Annual Wings Over Gillespie Airshow, Michael Aten, Scott Hazel and Ben Barackman of San Diego have built a replica of a 1902 Wright Brothers glider in a Ramona airport hanger. This represents the last glider ever constructed by the Wright brothers. The glider was also the first plane to be controllable in all flight axes -- pitch, roll and yaw.

The Wings Over Gillespie Air Show itself is scheduled Friday through Sunday, May 2-4, 2003 at Gillespie Field in El Cajon (CA), just 20 minutes East of downtown San Diego. Presented by Air Group One, the San Diego Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the theme of the 2003 air show will pay tribute to the 100th Anniversary of the first successful powered airplane flight. A replica of the Wrights' 1903 Flyer will be on display for the public during the air show.
