Has Filed To Conduct Tests Over The Arizona Desert

Google has filed an application with the FCC requesting two blocks of frequencies to be used to test the delivery of WiFi signals via unmanned aerial vehicles.

In its application, Google noted its recent acquisition of Titan Aerospace, a company that "specializes in developing solar and electric unmanned aerial systems for high altitude, long endurance flights. These systems may eventually be used to provide Internet connections in remote areas or help monitor environmental damage, such as oil spills or deforestation.”

PC World reports that the frequencies would be in the "industrial, scientific, and medical bands," one between 910MHz and 927MHz and one between 2.4GHz and 2.414GHz.

The application has not been approved by the FCC.
