NBAA Welcomes Senate Confirmation Of New TSA Administrator

Senate Vote Held Monday On The Nomination

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen praised the confirmation of U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral Peter V. Neffenger as the sixth administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

"Vice Admiral Neffenger (pictured) has three decades of Coast Guard service, giving him a solid perspective on balancing the nation's security requirements with the interests of the general public, including the need to preserve unencumbered access to the nation's airports and airspace," Bolen noted.

Nominated by President Obama in April 2015 to lead the TSA, Neffenger previously served in several leadership positions with the Coast Guard, including as deputy commandant for operations, director of strategic management and doctrine, and deputy national incident commander for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He was named USCG vice commandant in May 2014.

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly confirmed Neffenger as TSA administrator in an 81-1 vote. His confirmation follows the October 2014 retirement of previous TSA Administrator John Pistole.

"NBAA looks forward to continuing our work with the TSA on efforts to improve and enhance the security of our nation's aviation system, while also ensuring that the freedom and mobility provided by our industry remain uncompromised,” Bolen added.

Neffenger is the second TSA administrator to be appointed from the Coast Guard, following USCG Adm. James Loy's service as the agency's first administrator from 2002 to 2003.
