Aero-News Alert: Two USMC Fighters Down In Iraq

Details Still Coming In

REAL TIME UPDATE 0723 EDT TUESDAY -- Military officials in Iraq say search teams have recovered the body of one of two Marine pilots who went missing Monday. The search continues for a second pilot. Both of their F/A-18s from the USS Carl Vinson disappeared in bad weather, according to a statement from the military. The nature of their mission wasn't immediately known.

REAL TIME UPDATE 1945 EDT -- A search is underway in Iraq for two missing USMC fighter aircraft.

At approximately 10:10 p.m. May 2 (local time), contact was lost with two US Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet aircraft from the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), flying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Search efforts are currently underway.

There was no initial indication of hostile fire in the area at the time contact was lost.
