Black Hawk Down In Northern Italy, Four Confirmed Lost

Helo Was On Training Mission

A US Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed near the northern Italian city of Treviso on Thursday, killing at least four men and injuring six, according to the US Army.

The helicopter was carrying members of the First Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment, based in Mannheim, Germany, reports Bloomberg. The Black Hawk was on a training mission from Aviano Air Force Base when it crashed in an uninhabited area near Santa Lucia di Piave.

Four onboard the helicopter were lost in the accident. There are unconfirmed reports a fifth later died at the hospital. Of the six reported injured, two are listed in serious condition, according to Treviso deputy prefect Alberto Lorusso.

The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of their families, according to Army officials.

An official cause of the accident has not been reported, though a statement from Italy's Soccorso Alpin rescue unit said one of the helicopter's rotors may have struck the ground while operating near the Piave River.
