Pilot Mental Health Campaign Celebrates the Bill Moving to the Senate

The Pilot Mental Health Campaign’s flagship bill, the Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025, is celebrating a major milestone: unanimous approval in the US House of Representatives. The organization is now preparing to take on the more demanding part of Congress, moving to the Senate for consideration.

“This is an impressive accomplishment for any organization, let alone one as young and grassroots as PMHC,” the organization’s release said.

The Mental Health in Aviation Act (MHAA) was introduced to the House for the first time in September 2024 by Representatives Sean Casten and Lori Chavez-DeRemer. It aimed to address a long-running stigma against mental health talks in the industry, preventing pilots and air traffic controllers from seeking professional help.

Nearly seven months after its original introduction, in April 2025, MHAA was brought back to the House by Representatives Casten and Pete Stauber. It would force the FAA to implement recommendations from its Aviation Workforce Mental Health Task Group within two years, as well as revise policies surrounding mental health and medical disclosure. The bill was addressed alongside the Aviation Medication Transparency Act (AMTA), which would require the agency to publish an annually updated list of approved medications for pilots.

On September 8, after the bill was marked under “suspension” for being widely supported and non-controversial, the House of Representatives unanimously voted to pass MHAA. This makes the act part of the 3 percent that passes through just one side of Congress… but its battle isn’t over. The Senate is notoriously less likely to give bills a green light, and the Pilot Mental Health Campaign is looking for more than just hopes and prayers to support it.
