ForeFlight and SiriusXM have introduced SiriusXM Aviation weather service on the newest version of ForeFlight Mobile. ForeFlight’s latest release, which is version 8.1 is now available on the iTunes App Store.

The ForeFlight app with the SXAR1 portable receiver can now access SiriusXM’s Aviation Weather Service, which will provide access to satellite delivered graphical weather and aviation information which includes NEXRAD, lightning strike locations, high-resolution composite radar plus base reflectivity radar, and much more. This is our 3rd report this week on the situation regarding the continued operation of the airport at Santa Monica, California but, the situation is so bizarre, it deserves to be covered. Now, it’s reported the FAA will be taking a very close look at what is described as a "starvation strategy" on the part of the City of Santa Monica as the city works to close the airport in two years. When Malaysia Airlines flight MH 17 crashed in Eastern Ukraine in 2014, it didn’t take long for investigators to determine that the airliner had been downed by a Russian Buk ground-to-air missile. BBC reports that, in a news conference held earlier this week, chief Dutch police investigator Wilbert Paulissen said that based on the criminal investigation, "we have concluded that flight MH17 was downed by a Buk missile of the series 9M83 that came from the territory of the Russian Federation." All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
