Non-Flying Fokker D. VIII Replica Complete

Aircraft Called Most Authentic Representation Of The Aircraft In The U.S. For Sale

A project to build an authentic replica of a WWI Fokker D. VIII begun by Meil Good in Rhinebeck, NY in the 1970s has recently been completed, and is being offered for sale.

The website Earlyaero.com reports that the project was finished by noted WWI aircraft builder Fred Murrin in Pennsylvania for New York aviation enthusiast Brian Caughlin. It is thought to be the most authentic representation of the fighter in the United States.

The only caveat is that the airplane currently has a "static engine" ... meaning it is only for display. But the aircraft could be flown if a working engine were installed.

The airplane has historically correct cowlings and detailed Spandau machine guns, ammo chutes and boxes. It features printed lozenge, hand stenciling, and brushed wing finish, according to the website.

This is the third Fokker D. VIII replica commissioned by Coughlin of New York.

Last year, Coughlin purchased one of his replicas back from Kermit Weeks' Fantasy of Flight and equipped it with an original 160-hp rotary Gnome Engine. A YouTube video shows him flying the replica plane at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome last September.

Interested buyers can contact Coughlin by email.
