Expands Aeromedical Transport Readiness Capabilities And Completions
Metro Aviation, provider of aeromedical transport solutions and aircraft completions, announced two significant advancements that bolster its support for critical-care rotorcraft operations: first, it is the first completion center able to offer an STC specific for EMS interiors for the Airbus H160. Second, Metro has purchased twelve Airbus H140 helicopters that will be available for purchase after EMS-interior completions at its facility.
During the past several years, Metro has worked with the Airbus team to advance the H160 toward certification. Its design features the Helionix avionics suite, Blue Edge rotor blades, a Fenestron tail and quieter operations. Those combine to make it a capable platform for medevac scenarios where speed, situational awareness, and reduced noise are critical considerations. Metro expects the H160 STC to be finalized in Q1 2026.
The STC package developed by Metro tailors the H160 to its role in critical care transport, with intensive-care capable stretcher systems, medical equipment interfaces, cabin layouts optimized for patient-caregiver interactions and efficient loading/unloading access.
The EMS-tailored H160 provides operators a strategic advantage in fielding next-generation rotorcraft optimized for lifesaving emergency missions. In addition to the onsite STC installations, Metro plans to make the STC available as a kit for customers worldwide.
The just-introduced H140 aircraft offers a smaller, light twin-engine complement to the H160 and will be available for aeromedical operators as a capable and mission-ready platform.
Metro expects to receive its first two H140 deliveries in 2029. The early access Metro has will enable it to work directly with operators to develop an EMS interior tailored to their exact specifications.
This dual announcement by Metro represents a strategic advancement in enhancing aircraft options for the air-medical community.
