NTSB Prelim: Titan T51

Shortly After Takeoff, The Airplane’s Honda J35A6 Engine Lost Power And The Pilot Performed A Forced Landing

On May 12, 2024, about 1837 eastern daylight time, a Titan T-51 airplane, N260Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Novi, Michigan. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight.

According to preliminary information, the pilot departed from the Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal Airport (1D2), Plymouth, Michigan, on a local flight. Shortly after takeoff, the airplane’s Honda J35A6 engine lost power and the pilot performed a forced landing.

During the landing, the airplane collided with trees resulting in substantial damage to the wings and fuselage.

The airplane was retained for further examination.
