"The new standard means that American pilots who wish to continue flying past 60 in this country may do so, but only if they go to work for a foreign carrier."

Source: FedEx pilot Bob Lavender, on a recently approved International Civil Aviation Organization measure to establish age 65 as the new international standard for pilot retirement -- five years later than the FAA's "Age 60" retirement rule. The group Airline Pilots Against Age Discrimination (APAAD) maintains that unless the FAA's rules are extended, as well, experienced American pilots will be forced to seek employment for foreign carriers if they wish to keep flying after they reach 60.
