F-16 Pilot Safe After Hitting The Silk Near Key West

Plucked From Waters By Navy Helo

Investigators are looking into the Tuesday evening downing of a US Air Force F-16 fighter in the Gulf of Mexico.

The pilot, whose name was not released, ejected from the aircraft moments before it crashed west of Key West, FL, at about 1930 local time, according to Homestead AFB spokesman Tim Norton.

The pilot was soon rescued by a Navy helicopter, taken to a local hospital and released following a quick evaulation.

The F-16 was on a routine training mission, Norton told The Associated Press. The pilot is assigned to the 482nd Fighter Wing at Homestead.
