USAF To Move Bases From Spain

Greek Media: At Least One Base Moving To Cyprus

Greek reports indicate the US military will move operations currently based at Maron, Spain to the British base on the island nation of Cyprus.

The Greek Cypriot weekly newspaper Kipros Simera reports one of the two British bases in Cyprus, Agrotur, would become a US military base.

Defense officials in Turkey, Greece and Israel were said to have been told about the transfer in a 'confidential' message from the Pentagon. The newspaper said the new American base would "seriously strengthen the American presence in the eastern Mediterranean."

The paper also reported, "in this highly strategic region for America, land, air, and naval units would be kept ready for attack at any moment in order to maintain total control over the region."
