Airborne 02.21.14: GAMA Briefs on 2013, 777X Decision, CubeSats!

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) released the worldwide 2013 year-end aircraft billing and shipment numbers at its annual “State of the Industry” event held in Washington, D.C., and the news was somewhat positive.

Boeing said it evaluated criteria that were designed to find the wing fabrication location that would best support the 777X business plan. The new composite wing center will be located north of the Everett factory, and is expected to sustain thousands of Puget Sound area jobs for years to come. A business accelerator focused on independent media delivery systems is incubating its first project: Outernet, which it says is the world’s first truly global media delivery service. Outernet will use a network of small satellites called, CubeSats, to transmit selected internet data, audio, video, text and applications to any Wifi-enabled device anywhere in the world at no cost.
