Supplemental Type Certificate Approved for SmartSky LITE Air-to-Ground Connect

Streaming-Level System for More Than 2,000 King Air Aircraft In Service

SmartSky Networks announced the FAA has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its SmartSky LITE connectivity system. 

The certificate authorizes installation of the in-flight Wi-Fi system on all models of Beechcraft King Air from B200 to 36CER covering more than 2,000 aircraft now in service. Davinci Jet Services, a charter company and full-service MRO operated by Davinci Jets, LLC, of Charlotte, North Carolina, completed the initial installation on a King Air 350i.

The Morrisville, North Carolina-based provider of advanced in-flight Air-to-Ground Wi-Fi connectivity, said their system provides real-time low-latency, bidirectional data transfer that enables new and enhanced applications.

Pilots and passengers have praised the new system, pointing out that they can utilize multiple devices and services simultaneously, including streaming, video conferencing, and voice calls.

SmartSky CEO David Helfgott, commenting about the first King Air installation said, “Receiving this STC marks significant progress in the SmartSky STC lineup and in delivering our high-performance solution to a series of aircraft that has long been underserved by in-flight connectivity. The pilots and passengers of this aircraft are absolutely delighted with the ability to connect to whatever is most important, without limitations.”
