AD: Airbus Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-09-11

PRODUCT: Certain Airbus Model A330- 301, -321, -322, -341, and -342 airplanes; Model A340-200 series airplanes; and Model A340-300 series airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY: This AD requires contacting the FAA to obtain instructions for addressing the unsafe condition on these products, and doing the actions specified in those instructions.

This AD was prompted by reports of cracks on both left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) sides on certain frame (FR) locations.

DATES: This AD becomes effective May 29, 2018. Comments must be received by June 25, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that there are no affected U.S.-registered airplanes. If an affected airplane is imported and placed on the U.S. Register in the future, we provide the following cost estimates to comply with this AD:

  • Repetitive special detailed inspection - $4,590 per aircraft per inspection cycle.
  • Repair - Up to $3,965 per aircraft for parts and labor.
