American Legend Amphibious FloatCub Now Certified And Shipping

LSA On Floats In Adds Versatility To a Classic Design

Is it an airplane, or is it a time machine? American Legend Aircraft Company said Friday it has received certification for its Amphibious Legend FloatCub, making it available immediately. This new aircraft is based on a lightweight version of the Legend Cub and is configured with amphibious floats from supplier Baumann Floats, LLC, of New Richmond, Wisconsin. The Amphibious Legend FloatCub is a certified light-sport aircraft that meets the category's seaplane requirements with a simple, repositionable landing gear.

Since its first flight in July 2009, the Amphibious Legend FloatCub, has traveled cross-country from Texas to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Greenville, Maine, then back. The Amphibious Legend FloatCub has made countless hard surface and water landings, proving its value as a top performing, versatile seaplane. At the 36th Annual International Seaplane Fly-In in Greenville, Maine, last month, the American Legend Amphibious FloatCub took two awards: "Best Take-Off" and "Cutest Darn Aircraft."

"The new Amphibious Legend FloatCub has several advantages over other Cubs and seaplanes," said Kurt Sehnert, general manager of American Legend Aircraft Company. "Firstly, doors on both sides of the cockpit give the Legend Cub pilot and passenger easy access when docking the aircraft. Secondly, the Legend Cub's electric start, which did not exist on the original J-3, eliminates the precarious step of hand-propping and maneuvering back to the cockpit. We are excited about this aircraft and share this enthusiasm with our customers. We believe putting floats on an already fun aircraft increases the amount of fun substantially." The first customer aircraft is currently in production. The Amphibious Legend FloatCub sells for $159,000.

Baumann has been manufacturing FAA certified for lightweight and medium duty aircraft floats since 1989.

The Legend Cub has held the #1 spot as the best selling American-made light-sport aircraft since its introduction in 2005. Completely modern in its design, materials, and available options, the Legend Cub blends the best in history with the best of today. In a Legend Cub, the company says, it's possible to fly low, fly safely, and fly for fun.
