STC Secured For 790-Gallon Tsunami Carbon Fiber Internal  Vessel

Recoil Aerospace announced it has received FAA approval for its 790-gallon Tsunami Internal Aerial Fire Suppression System, or AFSS, carbon fiber tank for all variants of the UH-60 Black Hawk and its civilian version S-70 helicopters. The tank is manufactured in the U.S. and it easily and rapidly installed during preparations for firefighting season.

Recoil said the tanks are available immediately and deliver high-volume water drops with short turnaround times in wildland-urban interface areas.

The system features in-cabin mounting which keeps the cargo hook available for flexible mission adaptability. The system can be filled via a flexible water intake snorkel on either side for hover-filling or ground-filling from hydrants or water tenders.

The tank and system were developed in partnership with Aerospace Composites Solutions, an AAS9100-certified manufacturer in Kentucky, along with a customer service team based there as well.

Joseph Rice, President of Recoil and also a pilot said: “With these multiple STC’s approved, we are equipping fire aviation operators here in the U.S. and globally at the start of an already active fire season. Our rapid installation combined with the industry’s fastest approved airspeed allows high volume water delivery with rapid turnarounds.

Montana-based Central Copters will be the first U.S. operator to deploy the Tsunami system. It’s Chief Pilot Will Jacobs said, “This is a game changer for us. The installed Recoil Tsunami Internal AFSS Tank still allows us access to the UH-60 cargo hook for additional mission assignments without having to remove it due to its light weight.”
