Boeing Cranks Up Campaign Against Machinists Union In SC

Releases Series Of Videos Urging Rejection Of The Union

Boeing management is fighting hard to keep its workers in South Carolina from voting to join the International Association of Machinists.

The Seattle Times reports that Boeing released a video Monday making the Seattle skyline look like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. But the villains in the video are machinists wielding picket signs.

On Tuesday, tables in break rooms in South Carolina were piled high with kids clothes, diapers and groceries. The message from management was that each pile cost about $800, the amount that each employee would pay every year to belong to the union.

Boeing has promised to donate the items to the Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund and Lowcountry Food Bank in South Carolina.

A group of Boeing employees who favor representation posted a photo of the piles on a Facebook page. In the comments section, Alabama machinist David Story said that the company isn't interested in saving employees $800 per year. "It has to do with saving the company from the negotiated wages," he wrote.

The vote is scheduled February 15th.
