Textron Aviation Announces More Layoffs

Second Time In As Many Months That The Company Has Reduced Its Workforce

On the heels of another GAMA report of declining general aviation, business jet, and helicopter sales, Textron on Thursday announced that it was cutting more jobs.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Textron Spokeswoman Rosa Lee Argotsinger wrote an email to the paper saying that the company would not provide details about the number of people laid off, or where they had been working. “In line with the actions previously announced, Textron Aviation is taking action to streamline our business through workforce reductions in order to improve our overall operating efficiency,” she wrote.

GAMA's report released last week showed a decline in sales and billings for all but turboprop airplanes in the third quarter of 2016. But the Wichita Eagle reports that Textron showed higher deliveries and billings for Cessna aircraft in the third quarter. Beechcraft deliveries were flat.

The number of employees laid off in October was characterized as "small" by Textron. Many of those came from attrition and early retirements, according to the company.
