James Hill Joins Embry-Riddle as Vice President of Development

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has selected experienced university advancement and fund-raising executive James Hill as the school's new vice president of development. Hill will start on June 30.

Most recently, Hill was employed at Northern Arizona University (NAU), a doctorate-granting residential university located in Flagstaff that educates some 20,000 students annually and offers more than 140 degree programs.

During his tenure at NAU, which culminated in positions as interim vice president of university advancement and executive director of the NAU Foundation, Hill more than doubled the university's income from annual gifts and pledges and raised $91.5 million toward a $100 million goal in the first four years of a six-year campaign.

"Jim Hill's accomplishments at Northern Arizona University are clear indicators of the quality and success we at Embry-Riddle can expect," says Embry-Riddle President George Ebbs. "We're pleased to welcome such an enthusiastic and dedicated professional to our team."

Hill will lead Embry-Riddle's fund-raising efforts, supervising such elements as the $75 million capital campaign, major gifts, annual and planned giving, the corporate/foundation grant program, stewardship, support services, prospect research, and alumni/parent relations.

"Since its founding in 1926, Embry-Riddle has been a leader in shaping the future of aviation," Hill says. "To continue in that role and to achieve its visionary goals, the university needs increased private support through gifts and partnerships. My top priority is to take private giving at Embry-Riddle to dramatically higher and sustainable levels."

Previously, Hill held fund-raising positions at Florida State University, the University of Illinois, West Virginia University, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He also served as a senior consultant with Donald Campbell & Co., where he handled market studies and strategic plans.

He earned a B.A. in psychology/social work from West Virginia University.
