Santa Ynez, CA Plans Third Annual Airport Day

Event Helps Introduce Aviation To The Public

One of the best ways to demystify aviation and gain acceptance from the general public is to make it accessible ... and that is the intent of Airport Day at Santa Ynez airport on May 21.

The Santa Ynez Valley News reports that there will be in excess of 25 aircraft on display at Santy Ynez Airport (KIZA) for the event, and pilots will be on hand to field questions from the public.

They will also be offering free airplane rides to kids ages 8-17 as part of the EAA's Young Eagles program.

The local EAA chapter is actively focusing on promoting interest in aviation at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School through an aviation club. They will be coordinating the YE flights during the event.

Event planner and pilot Bob Perry said that there will also be two $2,000 scholarships awarded this year to be used for flight training.

The event will not feature any vendors, but there will be donation boxes set up, one for the free food that will be offered and one each from the local Rotary Club and a Vietnam Veterans group.

The event will begin at 1000 local time, though those wishing to take part in a Young Eagles flight are encouraged to arrive early to register. It will conclude at 1600.
