Navy Test Pilot School Selection Board To Convene February 15

Will Select Qualified Naval Aviators And Flight Officers For The Specialized Training

The Navy Test Pilot School (USNTPS) selection board will convene Feb. 15, 2017 to select highly qualified naval aviators and naval flight officers (NFO) for the school. To be eligible, applicants must submit a command-endorsed application as outlined in BUPERS Instruction 1500.62B which must be received by Navy Personnel Command by Jan. 16, 2017.

"We particularly need pilots and NFOs who have fleet electronic attack experience because of ongoing developmental testing of the Next Generation Jammer," said Cmdr. Mike Kline, Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer (AEDO) detailer. "We need commands and fleet communities to help identify the best candidates for this school because the graduates will have a direct, significant impact on the future warfighting capabilities of their communities."

USNTPS is open to naval aviators and NFOs through the grade of lieutenant commander who are qualified for flight duties and have not been terminated from flight status. The preferred unrestricted line aviators (13X0) are junior officers in grades O-2 or O-3 with career timing to complete the school and a 36-month follow-on test tour prior to their department head tour. If there are not enough qualified junior officers, lieutenant commanders may be selected if they can meet the applicable career milestones. AEDOs (1510) through the grade of lieutenant commander may be selected if they can serve a 36-month follow-on test tour and meet applicable career milestones.

Applicants may only apply for the fixed wing, rotary wing or airborne systems curricula as test pilots and NFOs. The flight test engineer curriculum is not available for naval officers.
