Batavia Considers High-Density Housing Near Airport

Famous Last Words… What Could Go Wrong?

In a bold and highly controversial move that could redefine “living in the fast lane,” the Village of Batavia Zoning Committee is set to vote on a proposed zoning change that could allow nearly 800 new homes to be constructed right next to Clermont County Airport.

The vote, which will be held on September 17, promises to be a game-changer -- or a complete disaster.

This development, the community voiced, could significantly damage existing infrastructure, safety, and quality of life for the community. It would overcrowd both roads and school systems, which have been under strain in recent years and would not be receiving additional funding to match.

Emergency medical services (EMS) would also face a challenge. Locals would have to wait longer for emergency response while they’re juggling a larger area that produces more calls. Safety first, indeed.

The decision was rushed through hurdles without community input, yet it is clear that they have some words on the matter.

“This issue transcends mere statistics; it directly impacts our families, children, and the future of our community,” Sporty’s Academy commented.

Placing high-density housing directly adjacent to a frequently visited airport is bound to have some serious long-term implications. Current federal regulations for residential areas near airports put restrictions on allowed noise, lighting, and other operations, which could inhibit growth and modernization of the Clermont County Airport. This could take a toll on the local economy and airport services.

Locals have opened up an online petition to stop the proposed zoning change. They encourage anyone with an opinion on the matter to sign and voice their concerns.

“We must take action to protect our community from this irresponsibly proposed high-density residential development that could jeopardize our community's well-being,” the petition creators stated.
