Skyborne Instructors See Bump in Pay

Vero Beach School Kicks Base CFI Salary up to $43,000

Skyborne is putting out the word that CFIs flying at its Vero Beach, Florida home will see increased pay in an attempt to keep their talent in the nest, with premium pay topping out at $69 an hour with the right combination of certs and hours.

Like any flight school offering the honeyed promises of eye-popping hourly rates to CFI’s scrounging for time, a lot of strings come attached. The “premium pay” ranges from $44.50 to $69 an hour for CFIA, CFII, MEI, and Check INstructors ONLY after flying over 58.3 hours in a month. Whether that’s a regularly achievable bar is probably only conveyed in hushed water cooler whispers, but anyone with experience in the average run-of-the-mill 141 operation knows that flight hours aren’t always as bountiful as instructors would like.

Managing Director Ed Davidson said the added pay is a must. “Record numbers of passengers are now flying across the US and at Skyborne Vero Beach, we understand CFIs are crucial in nurturing and mentoring the next generation of aviators required. Our commitment to raising compensation for flight instructors reflects our dedication to those who teach and recognition of their expertise.”

Skyborne’s people get access to a handful of benefits, too, falling closer in line to corporate America than the average Part 61 contractor op. Dental, medical, vision, even a 401K stand available, with 18 days of PTO given per year. Interested instructors can hit up the Skyborne team at their Careers Roadshow as it passes through Florida throughout the second week of August.
