Arlington, WA City Council Approves Taxiway Lighting Project

Allocates $500,000 From Airport Capital Improvement Fund

The Arlington, WA, City Council has approved spending $500,000 from its airport capital improvement fund to match federal and state grants for a taxiway lighting and signage improvement project at Arlington Airport.

Airport Supervisor Dale Carman told the council at an August 12 workshop that the airport is "on a fast track" for grants from the FAA and Washington State Department of Transportation to improve lighting and signage on Taxiway A. The council voted August 19th to accept the federal and state grants for the project.

The North County Outlook reports that the project includes lighting along the edge of the taxiway, as well as lighted signs running the entire length of the taxiway, which carries airplanes to runway 16-34.

The FAA's AIP program will cover 90 percent of the cost of the project, with the state adding another five percent. The city of Arlington will pay the remaining five percent of the cost.

At the same meeting, Mayor Barbara Tolbert signed a project acceptance letter marking the closing of the construction of a new 7,600 square-foot ramp at building 28 at the airport.
