Mitsubishi To Review The MRJ Test And Delivery Schedule

The Original Delivery Date In The Second Quarter Of 2017 Is Now In Question

It’s been reported on the airwaysnews blog that Japan’s Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have announced a possible delay in the Mitsubishi Regional Aircraft (MRJ) program.  The delay is referred to as a review of the testing program.

The joint companies released a brief press statement, saying that both companies “are now reviewing the entire schedule, from testing to the first delivery.” The statement did not indicate whether the changes in the test program will translate into changes in the planned delivery schedules previously announced as the second quarter of 2017.

The program has already dragged on as the first flight took place on November 11 of this year, which was four years after the original target date set when the program was launched in 2008. Since the initiation of the program other delays have been experienced, some of which were attributed to technical issues.

In a statement published in the Japan Times newspaper, the company said, “Whilst this latest delay is very disappointing, we remain confident of the benefits the MRJ will bring to the ANA fleet.”
