Businesses Look to Take a Bite of Orlando Sanford International

The Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) recently announced plans for a land development project that is expected to generate at least $300 million. Several major businesses are looking to get in on the upgrade, with three offers already being accepted.

The airport in Sanford, Florida, has around 800 acres of real estate and 450 acres currently available for development. So far, over 150 acres have been claimed by businesses.

“This airport is an amazing resource that still has much potential to be tapped,” stated Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine. “It is a vibrant economic engine for Seminole County.”

"It's going to be upwards of probably $300-$400 million worth of development, which will complement everything that's already there," added Commissioner Jay Zembower.

The airport authority has received nearly 20 proposals and six official letters of intent. Three have been approved, with their land chunks ranging anywhere from 10 to 50 acres.

A variety of companies have shown interest in the development. EPC Aerospace, an aircraft maintenance service provider, is looking to lease 67 acres to build a new modification and maintenance center.  PPK Aviation is requesting 36 acres for its own ventures.

Commissioners noted that at least one of the approved projects is expected to begin construction by the end of 2025. The nearly 1,000 jobs created by the new developments will join Orlando Sanford International’s existing mix of high-tech, industrial, and flight training tenants.

The $300 million investment is only part of the region’s effort to grow the community. Seminole County is currently working on a $61 million indoor recreation and festival center to complement the airport development.

“So, when you put all that together, there’s going to be a lot of development, a lot of opportunities for development, for jobs, and quite frankly, for recreation and tourism,” continued Commissioner Constantine.
