Cebu Pacific Orders 70 Airbus A321neo

Supports Carrier’s Domestic and International Routes

Cebu Pacific recently finalized an order for 70 Airbus A321neo following its initial MoU in July. This reflects the carrier’s mission to expand domestic and short-haul international routes in the Asia-Pacific region.

The A321neo, developed from the Airbus A321 and Airbus A320neo family, has the longest fuselage of Airbus's A320 series. It is the newest variation of the A321, with the first entering service with Virgin America in May 2017. The aircraft is 20% more fuel efficient and 50% quieter than previous models, lengthening its range by nearly 500 nm. Over 6,500 have been ordered by at least 85 customers with around 1,500 having been delivered so far.

Cebu Pacific’s initial memorandum of understanding (MOU) included up to 152 A321neo, costing an estimated $24 billion. This would be the largest aircraft order in the history of  Philippine aviation. The airline selected Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines over the CFM LEAP-1A option.

“The selection of Airbus A321neo underscores our focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, ensuring that we continue to deliver the highest standards of service while significantly reducing our carbon footprint,” commented Cebu Pacific CEO Mike Szucs. “This milestone signals our ongoing dedication to expanding air travel accessibility and affordability, while supporting the Philippine’s broader economic growth and connectivity goals.”

The carrier currently operates 61 aircraft from the Airbus A320 family on regional routes. It also owns nine A330 widebodies for high-density regional and Middle Eastern locations. The most recent purchase brings Cebu Pacific’s backlog to 94 A320neo family aircraft as well as seven A330neo.

“The A320 Family has supported Cebu Pacific’s domestic and short-haul international network growth over the last two decades. We’re grateful to the airline for its continued endorsement of our best-selling single-aisle product line,” stated Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP for Sales of the Airbus Commercial Aircraft business.
