Aero-TV: AAA For Your Airplane - Sporty's Breakdown Assistance Program

When You’re Stuck In Podunk With A Broken Airplane, ‘Who You Gonna Call?’ … Sporty’s!

While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, heard about a program being developed by Sporty’s Pilot Shop that can help pilots with maintenance issues if they are away from their home base. Jim got a 2-for-1 interview this time with the Vice President of Sporty’s Pilot Shop, John Zimmerman, and Mike Busch, the President of Savvy Aircraft Maintenance and Management.

Zimmerman said they call it their Sporty's Breakdown Assistance Program. While it has been compared with the AAA service for car repairs, it actually involves much more than that. When a problem occurs, the airplane owner has a single phone number and contact point to find out what needs to be done or, if the problem is even really an issue that makes the airplane unairworthy.

In the video, Busch goes on to explain how the system works and what can be expected after a pilot calls the hotline. An impressive array of problem solvers may be participating in the solution process. Busch says this is a 24/7 service and they’ll even manage the repairs if the airplane must be left behind.

There are lots of details in this video and the pricing of the service is well within reason for the average airplane owner. This is a new and innovative service and the video provides a great overview.
