Prominent Neurosurgeon Lost in Baron Crash

Landing Accident in Memphis

Dr. David W. Cahill, 51, chairman of the University of South Florida's Department of Neurological Surgery, and John Murphy, of Pensacola (FL) were killed Wednesday when the Baron Cahill was flying landed between two runways, skidded a short distance, and flipped over.

Two other passengers, identified by airport officials as Ed Brown and Chip Lomell, both of Tampa (FL), were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

We were told that Dr. Cahill, an internationally-known spinal surgeon, was flying his friend's machine to help get the three PAX, all of whom were identified as employees of Minneapolis-based Medtronic Sofamor Danek, to a business meeting.
