What To Do, What To Do With Older 747s?

This'll REALLY Tick Off The Neighbors...

If you want to really tweak some noses at the next meeting of your homeowners association... tell them you're applying to build a house out of a retired Boeing 747.

An industry publication predicts that as production finally catches up to demand for new passenger airliners over the next five years, middle-aged 747-400s will be released for conversion to freighters, reports Gizmondo.

As that happens, some of the oldest 747-200s will be retired in droves. Gizmondo estimates you could buy one -- gutted of engines and cockpit, of course -- for about $100,000 dollars.

That's far less than many similarly-sized two-story homes... although there would have to be compromises. For example, about the only place they'd fit in aesthetically would be mobile home parks.

Hey! That's it!

You could be the first on your block to say you live in a double-wide... body!
