Virginia Warbird Weekend To Be A Flying Celebration Of The Navy

The Show Will Also Host An Aviation Discovery Zone

The Military Aviation Museum is announcing its first Airshow of 2021 and it has a special Hampton Roads connection.

The Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA will be transforming its 130-acre campus into a fully functioning WWII Airfield next month. This safe, socially distant event will have a limited capacity and plenty of room for visitors to spread out and is scheduled for June 19 and 20, 2021.

The event will celebrate the Greatest Generation and their legacy of courage, determination, service and sacrifice, with a special emphasis on the US Navy and the Hampton Roads Community, home to a long tradition of Naval Aviation. The show will even see a demonstration of the first aircraft to take-off from on-board a ship with a flying re-creation of an aircraft designed more than 100 years ago.

The stars of the show will no doubt be the incredible, original, flying WWII Navy Aircraft of the Military Aviation Museum Collection, which will take to the skies alongside a squadron of other iconic Warbirds from around the world.

Virginia Warbird Weekend will also feature Living History displays on the ground and musical performances from 1940s-style entertainers as well as a hospitality area for WWII & Korean War veterans, who will be admitted to the show free of charge along with a guest. The show will also host an Aviation Discovery Zone with activities for the whole family!

“We are excited to see our tremendous collection of vintage aircraft taking to the skies as part of an airshow once again," said Keegan Chetwynd, Director of the Military Aviation Museum. “We feel that the stories these airplanes tell are incredible, with each standing as a monument to the men and women who built, flew and maintained them more than 75 years ago. Every time they take flight together, we celebrate our history, and we salute our veterans.”

Virginia Warbird Weekend will be held at the Military Aviation Museum June 19 and 20, 9 am – 5 pm each day.
