Encore Pilots File Cards To Join ALPA

Large Majority Of The Carrier's Pilots Say They Want Union Representation

The Air Line Pilots Association filed membership cards today from an overwhelming majority of Encore pilots with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). Under recently passed Canadian legislation, Bill C-4, the CIRB will now conduct an investigation into the application, which may include contacting Encore pilots who turned in a card to confirm its authenticity.

“We look forward to welcoming the Encore pilots into the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l,” said ALPA president, Capt. Tim Canoll. “With ALPA representation, the Encore pilots will strengthen the overall piloting profession and begin the first steps of negotiating a legally binding collective agreement.”

When the CIRB completes the investigation, which could take about three weeks, it will announce the decision concerning ALPA’s certification application. If the CIRB finds that a majority has filed authentic cards and that the bargaining unit applied for is appropriate, ALPA will become the representative of nearly 500 Encore pilots.

“We’re excited for the Encore pilots, and proud of their hard work in organizing this group, gathering membership cards in a short time,” said Capt. Dan Adamus, ALPA Canada president. “When they join ALPA, they will add their voices to the thousands of union-represented airline pilot voices in Canada.”
