Penguins May Fly Again

Is This Southwest's Answer to Hooters Air?

In the Old Times (before September 11), Southwest had a gimmick that worked well, and promoted good, clean fun: it featured penguins on many of its SeaWorld flights.

Popular with just about everybody, the birds would provide inflight entertainment, as vacationers got in the mood for their trips to Florida. After September 11, though, everything fun and non-serious was quickly stripped from flying, as regulators wondered where the leisure passengers went.

Now, if Southwest can get the Penguins' Union (or whoever's in charge) to agree to free flights in exchange for getting wanded, the penguins may be back in the air, flying the only way they can: courtesy Boeing engineering. Unlike the Southwest flight attendants, the penguins will be flying in their traditional "formal attire."
