SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2008-01-02
SUMMARY: We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for the products listed above. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product.

The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as: During a heavy maintenance check on a DHC-4 aircraft, an operator discovered that both of the upper engine mount bracket assemblies on one aircraft were cracked. Further inspection of the operator's fleet confirmed that engine mount bracket assemblies on five out of ten aircraft were also cracked.

* * * * * Failure of the upper engine mount bracket assembly could result in separation of the engine from the airplane.

This AD requires actions that are intended to address the unsafe condition described in the MCAI.
